R U Ok?
This last weekend I had a wonderful time with family and friends and it met that I started the week happy and rejuvenated. It got me thinking though – is everyone in the same boat? Unlikely so I wanted to ask the question R U ok? Coincidentally, today is national R U Ok day.
So R U Ok?
We can often get all consumed with our own day-to-day lives that we take for granted those who are around us and the exterior they portray to the rest of the world.
For some though this can just be show – underneath they may really be struggling.
Going through separation and divorce is one of the hardest and most emotional events that we can ever go through. Checking in on friends and loved ones who are experiencing this, not just today but throughout the journey can be one of the best ways to be there for them. To let them know that you have their back when things get too overwhelming.
This is even more important with your children. Letting them know that no matter what you still love them. That no matter how mad, angry, upset or frustrated they get with you (and more likely the situation) you are there for them and will listen to them. Remember that for our children this situation has been placed on them, and they will often wear the brunt of the end result. It will be them who have to move between households. It will be them who have to figure out what they can and can’t do or say in each household about the other parent. They have a minefield to navigate and emotionally they are not as prepared for this as we are.
Give them space, love them and always ask R U Ok?
As for you that is what we are here to do. We want you to know that we have your back every step of the way. Those days when you feel like you can’t get out of bed – we are here for you. Those days when you want to celebrate a victory we are here for you. From the lowest of lows to the highest of highs that is what having your back means. We will check that you are ok more than once a year – promise!
